The Benefits of Rose Oil in Skincare
We pride ourselves on using the latest bio-actives and scientific developments in our formulations, but sometimes you can’t beat a classic. Roses not only look and smell beautiful; their oils also have numerous benefits to your skin and mental wellbeing.
For centuries roses have been valued for their pure essential oils derived from the rose petal. It takes tens of thousands of blossoms to yield 30ml of essential oil making rose one of the most expensive oils available.
Rose essential oil contains a complex array of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants with soothing and moisturising properties. A recent study has also shown the aromatherapeutic properties of rose oil can calm and sooth the senses helping to alleviate anxiety and depression. The warming signature scent of rose promotes relaxation and positivity making it the ultimate bathtime companion.
We love the multiple benefits of rose and it’s been one of our firm favourites since Balance Me was founded. We use four rose oils in our products, discover the benefits of each below:
Rose Absolute (Rosa Centifolia (Rose Absolute) Flower Oil)
Rose Absolute is blended for its exquisite fragrance and anti inflammatory, soothing and smoothing properties. It’s beneficial for treating both broken capillaries and scarring. A nurturing oil with a sweet, floral, sensual fragrance, ideal for balancing your emotions and mood during tense times.
Rosa Damascena (Rose Otto) Flower Oil
Rose Otto is the purest of rose oils and known as the Queen of oils. It has anti-inflammatory, cooling and soothing properties which can help with stress-related conditions in more mature skin types. It is usually extracted by gentle steam distillation from Rosa Damascena, the Damask Rose. It is also excellent for treating broken capillaries and scarring to help skin tone appear more even. Rose Otto can also promote healthy skin cell growth to strengthen and smooth the skin.
Geranium (Rose) Pelargonium Graveolens (Rose Geranium) Flower Oil
Rose Geranium can brighten dull, lacklustre skin and soothe sensitive skin. The aromatherapeutic properties are known to reduce feelings of stress, anxiety, sadness, fatigue, and tension, balancing both emotions and hormones.
Rosehip Oil Rosa Canina (Rosehip) Fruit Oil
Not to be confused with rose essential oil, rosehip oil is derived from the small fruits that sit behind the rose flower. This oil contains high levels of vitamin c and vitamin a, rich in oils and proteins that keep skin soft and moisturised. It helps to encourage optimum cell growth and skin renewal as well as minimising the appearance of redness caused by scar tissue and fine lines and wrinkles.
From Our Founder:
“I’m a huge fan of facial oils. They seem to have come back into vogue and for a good reason. I particularly love our Rose Otto nut-free and rosehip rich formula, I find it both protects and locks in moisture. The fragrance takes me back to my childhood garden. The rose blend was inspired by our parents rose bed that produced the most beautiful scent – how rose should smell – faintly dusky, not too sweet. “ Rebecca, co-founder
